How lane departure warning works
LDW warns when the vehicle appears to drift out of its lane. Depending on the vehicle, the warning may be audible, visual or felt through the steering wheel or seat. The warning itself does not steer the vehicle.

A lane-departure alert starts with the vehicle’s ability to recognize its lane. Learn how LDW relates to your windshield camera and what to include when asking our Truckee team about glass replacement or calibration.
LDW warns when the vehicle appears to drift out of its lane. Depending on the vehicle, the warning may be audible, visual or felt through the steering wheel or seat. The warning itself does not steer the vehicle.
Lane-recognition systems commonly use a forward-facing camera near the top of the windshield. When glass is replaced, the applicable camera calibration procedure needs to be checked for that exact vehicle. The relevant service is calibration of the camera system, rather than a separate adjustment to the warning sound.
Your vehicle may have a warning feature, a steering-assistance feature or both. The names on the dashboard do not always match the terms in a repair estimate. Send the warning wording or a photo of the message with your inquiry so we can discuss the right system.
Tell us if the issue began before or after a windshield repair, replacement or other vehicle work. Bring available repair paperwork and ask which manufacturer procedure applies. Our Truckee shop can review glass and ADAS service needs together, including whether your vehicle requires a stationary setup, a prescribed drive or both.
