Advanced Driver Assistance Systems use cameras and sensors to support features such as lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and blind spot detection.
Calibration establishes the correct alignment and operating parameters for those systems. After windshield replacement, the requirements for a windshield-mounted camera must be checked against the vehicle manufacturer’s procedures.

THE TWO METHODS
In the shop. On the road.
01 / STATIONARY TARGETS
Static calibration
The vehicle stays parked in a controlled indoor environment. A technician positions a specialized target at the distance and angle specified for that vehicle, then uses diagnostic software to complete the calibration.
Performed with the vehicle stationary.
Uses precisely positioned calibration targets.
Requires a level surface, suitable lighting and adequate space.
Follows the setup and measurements specified by the manufacturer.
02 / REAL-WORLD ROAD DATA
Dynamic calibration
A technician drives the vehicle under prescribed conditions while the camera system reads road information. The process follows the manufacturer’s required driving parameters rather than using only a stationary target.
Performed while the vehicle is driven.
Uses real-world road input, including visible lane markings.
Requires suitable road conditions and specified speeds.
Driving distance and completion requirements vary by vehicle.
YOUR VEHICLE SETS THE PROCESS
Which method does your vehicle need?
The answer depends on the make, model, year and installed safety systems. Some vehicles need static calibration, some need dynamic calibration, and others require both in a specific sequence.
Our Truckee team uses professional diagnostic equipment and follows the manufacturer’s calibration procedures to determine, perform and verify the appropriate process.
One method or both
The correct procedure comes from the vehicle manufacturer. Brand alone does not determine the calibration method.
After windshield replacement
We check the camera and safety-system requirements associated with your vehicle’s glass replacement.
Before your appointment
Share your vehicle’s year, make and model, and tell us whether you need glass replacement, calibration or assistance with an insurance claim.
CONNECTED TECHNOLOGY
Features supported by ADAS.
Calibration requirements vary with the cameras, radar and other sensors installed on your vehicle.
